Production System Overview

MediScribe.NET® Production

Screen Prints from MediScribe Medical Transcription SoftwareMediScribe.NET® production system is the core of the MediScribe.NET® system. MediScribe.NET® uses the industry standard for word processing - Microsoft Word (2000, XP and 2003) - and significantly extends the power of Word by providing productivity tools and integration features with document distribution and management options. The result is a well-integrated solution that significantly enhances the accuracy and productivity of the transcription process, frequently by as much as 30-40% over word processing alone.

Key benefits of the MediScribe.NET® production system include the following:

  • MediScribe.NET® is time-tested, a 4th generation product which has migrated through all Word and Windows versions since 1995. The product is stable and bulletproof and has been implemented in hundreds of institutions.
  • Enhanced transcriptionist productivity
  • Improved report turnaround time
  • Greater accuracy and improved consistency in report formats which contribute to an enhanced customized corporate image
  • Improved accuracy in patient and visit information resulting from the demographic and dictation interfaces
  • Reduction in transcription costs per
Key features of MediScribe.NET® productivity tools include the following:
  • User-defined templates for each report type - provides up to 80 variables (e.g., Patient Name and MR #) which are automatically imported into the report
  • Demographic (ADT) Interface - provides access to and automatic import of data. The demographic interface also provides improved accuracy and productivity with respect to patient and visit information. All major HIS vendors are supported
  • Dictation Interface - provides an automatic interface that expedites the start of a report by utilizing the patient ID, doctor ID, date/time, work type, job number, and other information provided by the digital dictation system. All major dictation vendors are supported.
  • Automatic Document Naming, Storage, Printing, and Distribution - insulates the transcriptionist from delays or involvement with these repetitive functions
  • Document Management System - facilitates logging, locating, and reporting on transcribed reports
  • Multi-Support Medical Dictionary - improves the accuracy of the transcribed report. MediScribe.NET® works with all medical spell-checkers that are compatible with Word - including Stedman's, Spellex, and Sylvan's.
  • Streamlined handling of carbon copies - the transcriptionist need only highlight and select the recipients for carbon copies; can also allow for automatic carbon copies to certain doctors for different report types
  • Streamlined access to previous reports and doctors’ addresses - allows transcriptionists to quickly access prior reports (e.g., to gather a list of medications) and doctor names and addresses with minimal keystrokes
  • Navigational Tools - MediScribe.NET® allows a "mouseless" operation (if desired) and provides a single-keystroke movement to navigate from one section of the document to another (e.g., moving from "Chief Complaint" to the start of "History of Present Illness").
  • Options to incorporate numerous user-defined screens and processes
  • HIPAA compliant
  • All features of Word including auto-text, auto-correct, tables, headers and footers, and macros are available; no Word features are disabled.
  • Option to automatically invoke spell checking upon completion, if desired.
  • Automatically generates production log for any date or period of time
  • Allows transcriptionist to establish individual production objectives with automatic notification when objectives are reached for the day. Quick review of on time production results for the last 5 days.
  • Fully supports multiple facilities and departments
  • Allows any transcriptionist to locate any document for edit or correction with only a few keystrokes
  • Production counts can be based on characters, words, lines, or pages. A single global setting will set this for all reports and screens. MediScribe.NET® has a "header allowance" and fully supports difficulty factors by doctor and/or report type. MediScribe.NET® counts only the characters (or words, lines, or pages) that the transcriptionist added; this means that a transcriptionist adding two paragraphs to a document originally created by another transcriptionist will receive credit only for these two paragraphs. More difficult production work can be weighted depending on transcription difficulty.
  • MediScribe.NET® production will work with Word V6, Word 97, and Word 2000 on Windows 9X, NT, and 2000 platforms operating in either a Novell or Microsoft NT networking environment. The preferred environment is Windows NT or 2000 for the workstation, Windows NT or 2000 Server for the network, and Word 2000.
  • Word is the resource constraint on hardware - any PC that works well with the version of Word installed should work well with MediScribe. Minimum recommendations are:
    • Word 97 PIII w 300+MHz and 64 MB RAM
    • Word 2000 PIII+ w 600+ MHz and 128 MB RAM
  • MediScribe.NET® fully supports an off-line mode in the event of a networking failure. (This can utilize the "Batch Upload" button on the Create Document screen if the workstations are properly configured.)
  • In-house and remote MediScribe.NET® screens are identical to allow for ease of training and flexibility.
